It seems like just yesterday that winter had started and warm days were nowhere to be seen, but surely enough, summer is here! That means people are coming out of gardening hibernation and thinking about what they will be doing in their gardens, landscapes and home projects this year. Usually this means staying up to date on the newest trends and what is popular. Lighting is no different. In fact, I try to stay on top of as many new products and technologies as I can. Our industry is experiencing great growth in technology, and there are always lighting design strategies that come and go in popularity. Without further ado, here are the latest lighting trends for Summer 2019:

Color Changing:

Without a doubt, this is the newest and most dramatic trend of the year. What once was a select few lighting manufacturers has now grown to several as the competition catches up with this new technology. LED technology is still fairly new in the grand scheme of things, and we are seeing leaps in technology all the time. This year seams to be the year of color changing lamps. Controlled by either Wifi or Bluetooth technology, these lamps are able to change colors over a full spectrum of hundreds of different colors. Got a favorite sports team? light up your front entry with your teams' colors to display your pride! Want your backyard to feel like a resort? Light your trees with purples, blues, and greens to add that mystery! Christmas time? You bet! Light your home red and green. The possibilities are endless as you can set different scenes for whatever the occasion may be. Different manufacturers use different technologies, and not all products are created equal, so be sure and talk with a professional lighting designer to determine which is right for you.

Custom Shadow Bollards

Technically a path-light, these custom made bollards add a bit of mystery and uniqueness to any lighting scene. Placed on a walkway or around a drive or even in the middle of a dark space, these steel cutout bollards throw shadows onto the ground in a number of patterns to create intrigue. While they come standard in a weathering steel, which is a rustic appearance, they also can be powder coated to whatever color is desired to get the exact daytime look you are going for. Unlike your standard pathway lighting fixture, these fixtures will create much bigger illumination areas and add that special flair. Have a custom idea for a specific design cutout? Not a problem with these bollards. coming in several different sizes and heights, the options are only limited to your imagination.

Bring the Outdoors In

Enjoying your lighting system in your outdoor environment is always enjoyable. But you may only be enjoying it half the time you could be! I am referring to outdoor scenes which can be viewed from inside. Architects have been using glass to bring the outdoors into the home for years. Large frame windows, glass walls, and accordion doors are a great way to bring in light into the home and enjoy your landscaping during the day. Lighting these landscaped areas can have an even greater effect on the space at night! This effect can make a room seem much bigger and create a sense of security as the viewer will be looking at a pleasing scene instead of a blank window and their reflection.

By no means is this an exhaustive list, but I hope it showcases a few effects wich are popular at the moment. If you have a special lighting application, please give us a call at 806-731-8340. We love to do custom and unique work and we would love to hear from you!
